Description

Charleston Gray has a light grey green skin. It is the typical oblong marrow shaped water melon with bright red flesh. It can grow to very large proportions in good growing conditions.

Sowing Time: Feb to June

Germination: Germinates at 20°C.

Sowing Instructions: Sow seeds from March to April under glass for indoor cropping. Sow early Feb to May under glass to transplant outdoors. Sow seeds 1cm (½in) deep in pots or trays in a good seed compost at minimum 20°C. under glass or in a propagator. Protect emerging seedlings from direct sunlight.

Growing Instructions: Maintain a temperature of around 20°C. Plant 2 plants per growbag under frost free glass for earliest crops, or in frames or cloches. Plants can be supported on strings or wires or grown on the flat. Pinch out growing point after 4 true leaves. Laterals will form. Train 4 laterals to 6 leaf stage and then pinch out. Sub laterals will form which produce fruit. Once fruit has set remove further flowers. Feed regularly with tomato fertiliser.

After Care: Prefers a rich, moist, well drained soil. Protect from frost.
